Big Trouble in little Barna

On 4th March, three Irish Actors from the professional theatre group “Pickles Company” came to our school to perform their new play “Big Trouble in Little Barna” in front of the 3rd and 4th year. It is about a young Irish girl called Rina who dreams of being a Kung Fu master and who finds herself in a whirlwind adventure in which she finally defeats the evil Big Sue and saves her village.
Each year a few students of the “advanced” English course are given the opportunity to act in the play. This year six students seized the opportunity and memorized their part of the script in advance. The rehearsal of the student roles took place one hour right before the actual play. Accompanied by the three actors, the students did some warm-up exercises and were given some instructions on how to move, gesticulate, etc.
After the ten o’clock break the audience eagerly awaited the play. When it began, everyone was silent. The group used a black background, some musical effects and simple clothing. As if it were the most natural thing in the world, the students performed their roles and were given a sitting ovation.
When the play was over, the audience were allowed to ask a few questions and the actors gave some very interesting and honest answers.
